Ropes...

What are people's favorites out there in tree climbing? I'm looking into doing some doubled rope climbing and looking to transition to single rope climbing in the future, so I am trying to find a rope that would work well for both.

Found a couple on newtribe and also sherrill tree, but am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions?

lots of trees here, on the look for some nice big ones, maybe a seclued place on the outskirts of river walk. know any nice ones? Have rope harnesses etc. treehouse building.

The 800ft zip line is very cool.

This will be my second conference, Michael is a bit of a nut :>
However no one knows treehouse construction better.

If any one is going from the bay area i would be willing to share travel costs.
Also i have rented the Serendipitree and would be willing to sub let the extra bed.

New Years In A Banyan

On New Years Eve I went out with some friends to a "club". I don't normally attend indoor events yet I knew several of the DJs and wanted to catch their sets. I kept myself centered by occasionally visiting the banyan in the park across the street. Anyone who has ever lived in Hilo knows which one I'm talking about. It's the one in the park across from the East Hawaii Cultural Center. It was well lit so I could climb at night. All I can say is Magic! Aloha and Happy New Years from the Big Island.

We Save Trees activists have risen up again! A treesit has been set up in a massive tree in the Bonanza THP near Scotia! In the middle of the night, friendly climbers scaled the Gigantic tree, and set ropes and living quarters, in order to occupy the tree so it wont be cut. This area is adjacent to an older treesit village in a virgin redwood grove, that was clearcut in late 2002. The area is inhabitted by endangered seabirds called Marbled Murrelets. The logging plan, called “Bonanza”,is 249 acres. 192 acres are occupied stands for the murrelet.The Bonanza harvest plan contains the largest unprotected, contiguous, occupied marbled murrelet stand left on Maxxam/PL's land. We Save Trees desperately needs your help to protect this ancient tree and the surrounding oldgrowth forest! Call us if you can Help! Where are all the aerial platforms and traverses in the world?

I'd spend my entire life in the canopy if I could, but I had to stop doing treework due to my aging joints, and since then I've added too much weight to climb easily. Still, I'd like to spend appreciable time up there if I can.

I know that there platforms here and there all over the world, but I don't know the specifics. I'd like to catalog them, and do a photography peice from that viewpoint.

some of my most sublime, clear, self-relection and most stoaked joy has come cradled in the limbs/fronds of trees. The views, the breeze, the birds, ants, bees, and becoming one with all that, sensing roots while soaring in the air. simian instincts overpowering neo-cortex ego creation. stretches, joints opening, that would make paramhansa jealous. dangling inbetween earth and sky awake and simple, alive. thats all. sun flickering through leaves, maybe a ripe fruit. sweet.

Teaching how to make treehouse hammocks in Koshland park

Wednesday... aug 17th, I'll be in Koshland Park (page and Buchanan in SF) making a hammock... if anyone want to learn. I'll have two set up for kids of ages to play in.... if you just want to check it... and I'll be serving hot tea and coffee to.

The first branch

After a frustrating experience last week i decided i need a better way to get a rope up over the first branch. Sometimes it's just so high you can't throw the rope up there. I was thinking about something involving a slingshot to send fishwire over so i could then pull up the rope. I'd apreciate any ideas or opinions on the matter.

Blueprints for a tree stand?

I'll be building a tree stand to live in these next few months and would like suggestions. I have high tension strap wire/connections and some wood for the platform. Have some basic climbing equipment and pully's(sp?). Any info or links appreciated.

Seasons?

Hello there, I'm new here :)
Robin is my name, not that it matters.

Anyway, I was thinking, do you guys climb trees in the winter aswell?
Or what season do you prefer?
Sounds rather hazardous to climb if the tree is filled with snow, but then it's not as painful when you fall ;)
And climbing in the autumn will be more open, when the leafs have all fallen down.
But climbing in the springtime will be filled with flowers and stuff.
I think I prefer summer, but then I'm a summer type of person.

favorite trees

A while ago there was a posting from one of you about favorite trees on the west coast. What happened? This monkey wants to know!

I just had a friend tell me about a wonderful tree on the Oregon Coast, near Cannon Beach. I need to get more detailed info so I can find it... she said it's huge and supportive and gentle and covered in deep moss so it's soft as well. Mmm...

I've got a neat willow in my front yard that was a volunteer. A few feet up it splits into 2 main trunks. About 15' up I've found a spot where I can stand in the middle of them and put one foot on a solid branch next to each trunk. There are quite a few thinner branches behind, to the point where I can let go with my hands and just stand there leaning back slightly.

This discovery was made about a year ago when a particularly strong east wind was blowing through for a couple days. I wanted to feel that wind so much that I went outside at midnight to climb the willow.

It was quite a mind trip to reach the point where I could talk myself into letting go enough to release my hands and fully give in to the support of the tree, but when I did and the next gust came through and the tree did her dance with me up in the air it was sublime...

What are some of your favorite tree experiences?

ropes versus free

hello all,

in the last year or so i have gained an entirely new appreciation and love for trees as my "fella" is an arborist. I have been doing tree work for about 10 months and have learned some cool ways to get up inot trees with ropes, although it really is so much different than the elemental connection of freeclimbing...

do ya'll do much tree climbing with rope setting?

i am on the east coast at the moment, and yearn for the big amazing trees of the west!

Joy!

Someone..gasp!.... hung a swing on a tree along my hiking path!

It is the most wonderful thing. It makes me feel like a kid again, and I could swing for hours. I forgot how relaxing it is.

The swing looks out over a wonderful view of the valley below. The branch bends slightly as I swing, making the leaves dance.

Thank you very much to the unknown person who made such a wonderful thing. Now instead of sitting in a tree on my daily hikes, I get to swing in one. Nothing better :)

upside down..

sometimes it is important to hang upside down, your legs hooked around a supportive branch while your arms and head sway gently with the breeze. there are not too many monkeys left in the north american trees, so the branches enjoy the company. this is what i have recently observed!

I have travelled a fair ammount around the west coast and have some favorite trees. Sappy hands

i really like climbing pine trees but hate the sap on hands and clothes. any ideas about how to keep it off or get rid of it once its on?

In San Diego the best are the Torrey Pines which only grow in socal, usually on the coast, so you get killer ocean views and they grow in nice angles so its good reclining for the tree meditation.

Ive got a fave tree in the hills of Santa Cruz I like to climb.. its really tall, and it likes to have people wrapped up inside.. I decided to travel around the world,(in search of some good climbing) and like all world travelers decided to get a tattoo, naturally its gonna be of this tree..
Do any of you have a special place or tree that you like to hang out in?
